Product Description
Produced from 1993-1995 only, the Jackson JTX Standard Professional is a rare and special model in the Jackson catalog. It has vintage styling and Telecaster-like body in combination with modern hardware. It comes with a solid, single-cut alder body. Top is flat is equipped with a Stratocaster style pickguard. Construction-wise, the body of this model features a contoured back, bolt-on neck joint and deep cutaway for full 24th-fret access.
This JTX Pro is the 1994 model. As for the bridge, all Takeuchi produced bridges used on Jackson and Charvel guitars were and are made in Japan. Japan has a seriously skilled metal industry and the Takeuchi units benefit from it. The metal is hardened correctly and the precision is comparable to Schaller units. Most JT-580 bridges are softer metal designs. The Takeuchi Bridge is distinguished from the normal JT-580 bridge because it is stamped, "Takeuchi" on its back plate, as does the bridge on this guitar.
Rather than adhere to the standard, replace the not at all good Jackson HSS pickups with a specialized 3-pickup set, I did something very unique with this Jackson. In the neck is a hand-wound P-90 pickup ($180), made and wired by Luthier and expert repairman, Jason Gibbons at ATX Guitarworks (he also set up the guitar as well) in Austin, Texas. Jasons P-90 has that rich sound only a P-90 can get as well as that unique growl when cranked. I left out the middle pickup (it has the Juiceland sticker over the pickup spot) and opted to to have Jason install a Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF pickup in the bridge. The combination of Jasons P-90 and the Dimarzio PAF is sublime. Though the wiring was totallt redone, Jason kept the original 5-way HSS configuration so even if you make a mistake and miss switching from the bridge to the neck puckup or vice-versa, you still make your pickup switch! At high volume its rock n roll heaven. When you roll back the volume these pickups clean up to a super rich soulful sound.
The neck of the JTX Pro - maple with Rosewood fretboard and 24 jumbo frets - is thinner than any Ibanez Wizard. The fret to fret reach you can get with this neck is amazing. Its just one of the best thin necks Ive ever played.
The ONLY drawback to this JTX is that frigging ding that happened on shipping when I originally bought it. It wasnt packed well at all and though it was to be sent from the shop in a gig bag ---- it wasnt. Jason said he could easily mask the ding but in the end I said I want the character and left it as is. If you want to clean it up, please be my guest. The way it plays, though, I really dont think itll matter at all. Besides, when youre on stage, unless you flip the guitar around to the back, no one but you (and probably your band mates) will ever know its there.
This vintage Jackson was my "baby." I dreamed up the pickup configuration so it sounds like no other Jackson ever made - in 1994 or now. I hated to get rid of it but I need to clear out some of my guitars so I can replace some pedals and upgrade my Marshall JCM 2000 head thats finally biting the dust. I truly hope it gets a good home. A good bit of work went into getting this Jackson beyond right... oh yeah, one more thing: Jason also refretted the JTX ($250) with nickel wire - jumbo frets, as were the originals. Youll find the edges are perfectly rounded off on the neck and the height of each fret is also perfect.
This guitar, as you can tell, has had hundreds of dollars of work put into it and is as unique a guitar as youll find anywhere. For whats gone into it, its a steal.
I truly hope my baby finds a good home!
One last item: the JTX Standard Pro was one of the final completely Made in Japan (MIJ) Jackson models before Jackson/Charvel moved back to the U.S. The MIJ Jacksons, and particularly the JTX, far outstripped the quality of the U.S. Jackson/Charvels. In 1995 the retail price fro the JTX Standard Pro was $625. To compare, Fender Stratocasters from the same years that were said to be made in Mexico (MIM) but due to a plant-wide fire at the MIM plant, were actually made in California, where the quality, then, was MUCH better than the Mexico plant, went for $527 retail... and Teles were even cheaper.
Make an offer, lets see what we can do... Ill throw in a tweed hardshell case.
