Over the years, Ive owned and played modified pedals from all of the aforementioned companies (all good people and many I consider friends, I might add). Ive combined the best features from these various mods and incorporated my own based on my exhaustive research and development. The result is, what I feel, simply the best modified ProCo Rat mod available at any price. In its stock form, the ProCo Rat suffers from a dull, thin sound which can be a bit harsh. To remedy this, I add a an original spec LM308 opamp chip - just like the originals! I also upgrade many circuit components to add richness, clarity and fidelity to the tone. The difference between my modified pedal and a stock unit is astounding! Many people associate the ProCo Rat with higher gain (ie: metal) tones. However, the Rat also functions as a great lower gain overdrive too! In fact, I lower the value of the distortion potentiometer to allow for a more useful range throughout the sweep. Additionally, I add a bright LED in your choice of color and true bypass switching. I also install a three position tone switch which provides different gain clipping options. Lastly, I add a "Boss-style" 9 volt DC power jack! Professionally installed (by me - www.alchemy-audio.com). Requires 9 volt battery or DC power (battery and power supply not included). The last photo shows a modified circuit board. As you can see, I know what I am doing and my work is clean and correct. I am meticulous in my work. I pay attention to the details - including cleaning / lubricating all jacks and pots, replacing any worn or missing battery straps, grommets and screws and fully testing every function prior to shipment. Thats right - if you should ever encounter an issue with the craftsmanship on my modifications or repairs, I will repair or replace free of charge! I dont strive to be the cheapest.
