Charvel Model 2 Electric Guitar - Midi 2 - 1989

Charvel Model2 electric guitar, complete with Shadow GTM-6 midi controller, leads and powerconvertor.

This is afairly rare Charvel Model 2, which is equipped with a factory fitted Schallerpiezo tremolo bridge – rather than the Kahler or Jackson JT-6 units usuallyfitted.

This bridgeallows it to be used as a guitar synthesiser controller – more of that later.

The bodyand headstock are painted gloss black, and the guitar as a whole is inexcellent condition.

Made inJapan around 1989, the guitar remains stock having no mods or upgrades.

Theserial number stamped on the neck plate is 251483.

It has a basswoodbody equipped with the original pickup, which is a J90C Humbucker in the bridgeposition. This is operated via a single volume control.

The 22fret rock maple neck, with a rosewood fingerboard, sports a carbon fibre nut, Jacksontuners, and the original Kahler locknut.

Thepointy headstock is also fully intact.

The neck isstraight, having a standard scale length of 25 1/2", and the maple hasaged to a nice golden colour.

Both originalrear cavity covers are fitted.

The extraelectronics needed for the Schaller bridge are hidden away behind the controlcavity cover.

Guitar isalso supplied with the original Japanese warranty card – to add a little moreprovenance!

Asmentioned earlier, this guitar differs from a standard Model 2 because when it’splugged into the Shadow GTM-6 head unit, it enables you to connect and playsynthesisers, keyboards, samplers, etc with the guitar.

This unitdoesn’t have any sounds of its own – but it can plug into, and control, any synthwith a midi input.

And atthe flick of the switch – the guitar goes back to being a standard Model 2,providing all the classic metal sounds Charvels are famous for!

The Schallerbridge also acts as a second ‘pick-up’, and the signal from this can be takenfrom the jack socket on the back of the Shadow GTM-6. The second control knobon the guitar acts as a volume control for the Schaller bridge’s output.

Theoutput from the standard J-90C pickup can also be taken from the back panel ofthe Shadow GTM-6 – please see the photos.

The ShadowGTM-6 still works perfectly.

A new stereojack lead is included to allow it to connect the guitar to the Shadow GTM-6.

A newmidi lead is included to connect the GTM-6 to a synth.

The ShadowGTM-6 unit is branded as an Ovation – but this is the same unit used by Charveloriginally.

As these headunits are now quite rare, I got this from abroad – so I’ve included a brand new240V to 110V convertor to allow it to be used in the UK.

When notused as a synth controller, the Charvel guitar can connect to any standard ampwith a normal mono lead just like a standard Charvel Model 2.

A tremolobar is not included.
